This comparative review evaluates two ultrahigh performance summer tyres: Maxxis Victra Sport 5 and Falken Azenis FK520. Both of these tyres have been put through rigorous tests, and this review aims to highlight their strengths, weaknesses, and how they stand against each other.
The Maxxis Victra Sport 5, manufactured in China (CN), performed reasonably well in various tests conducted by ACE, SportAuto, Autobild, and Gute-Fahrt. Its best performance was in wet handling according to ACE test. However, Autobild pointed out that though it has good safety reserves in aquaplaning, it lags in response time for steering. This tyre was ranked #9 out of 50 tyres tested by Autobild and #6 out of 10 tyres tested by ACE. Overall, this tyre scored a 69% rating on our site.
On the other hand, we have the Falken Azenis FK520 that is manufactured in Turkey (TR). It is a newer tyre compared to the preceding model, Falken Azenis FK510. The FK520 showed impressive aquaplaning resistance and had the lowest exterior noise, as per the Autobild test. Its highest-ranking was #7 out of 11 tyres tested by SportAuto, and the lowest was #9 out of 10 tyres in the ACE test. According to sportauto 2023, its strengths are good wet braking and safe aquaplaning properties, but it falls behind in dry braking lengths and somewhat indifferent balance in the wet. Overall, Falken Azenis FK520 outputs an impressive performance with a 75% rating on our site.
In conclusion, both the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 and the Falken Azenis FK520 have their unique strengths and weaknesses. While the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 provides better wet handling, the Falken Azenis FK520 excels in aquaplaning resistance and offers a quieter ride. However, considering the overall test positions and ratings, the Falken Azenis FK520 comes out slightly ahead of the Maxxis Victra Sport 5.
