When considering summer tyres, two competitive models for comparison are the Toyo Proxes Sport A and the Bridgestone Potenza Sport. According to our test results, the models exhibit distinct strengths and weaknesses, influencing our ratings of 42% and 89% respectively.

Toyo Proxes Sport A

The Toyo Proxes Sport A tyre does not replace any previous model. It was praised in the Autobild test for its aquaplaning performance and dry braking. This summer tyre displays a new sport profile with exemplary driving characteristics, excellent safety reserves for aquaplaning, as well as sporting handling on wet and dry tracks. While it did well in terms of performance, there were a few cons such as stiff rolling comfort and increased rolling resistance. Concerns were also raised regarding long braking distances in dry and wet conditions.

Bridgestone Potenza Sport

The Bridgestone Potenza Sport from Bridgestone model is a Ultra Ultra High Performance (UUHP) tyre which also doesn't replace any older model. In our tests, it took second place, exceeding the Toyo in terms of performance and displaying impressive characteristics in dry braking, wet braking, wet cornering, and handling in both wet and dry conditions. Cited for its premium summer tyre features, it showcases convincing driving qualities in wet conditions, sporting-dynamic wet handling, direct steering response and stable dry handling. However, it was also noted for its high rolling resistance and increased interior noise.

When comparing the mutual performances in the test, the Bridgestone Potenza Sport significantly outperforms the Toyo Proxes Sport A, favourably featuring a comprehensive application range and delivering reliable performance in a variety of road conditions. Whilst both demonstrate strengths and weaknesses, the Potenza’s upper edge lies in the consistent reliability and balance amongst all rated features, making it a clear leader in this comparison.

In conclusion, both tyres are suitable for summer conditions but their performance varies. The Toyo Proxes Sport A seems to provide a fair performance considering its pricing level, exceling in aquaplaning and featuring a new sport profile. In contrast, the Bridgestone Potenza Sport offers a superior, balanced performance in both dry and wet conditions despite its high rolling resistance and increased noise level. These findings underline why the Bridgestone Potenza Sport is rated higher in our tests.
