Our tyre comparison focuses on two distinct summer UHP tyres, the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 and the Toyo Proxes Sport 2. Both tyres offer unique benefits, but have varying results in individual performance tests.
The Maxxis Victra Sport 5 comes straight out of China. Our overall test rated it at a score of 69%. It excels in terms of wet circle cornering, a strength that was evident during the Autobild test where it achieved a ninth position out of 50 tyres. Moreover, it boasts good safety reserves in aquaplaning situations and reliable wet handling performance. However, the test data shows a slightly lower dry running performance and the steering behaviour seems a bit delayed. Please note, this model wasn't replaced by a new tyre. More details are available at the manufacturer's page.
The Toyo Proxes Sport 2, on the other hand, clinched the tenth position in the same Autobild test, highlighting its competence in wet circle cornering as well. We gave it an overall rating of 72%, slightly higher than the Maxxis. The Toyo Proxes Sport 2 impresses with balanced driving characteristics on both wet and dry roads, coupled with short dry braking distances. Despite these positive aspects, it comes with a higher price tag and its mileage performance is slightly restricted. As for this model, no replacement model has been released yet. More information can be found on the manufacturer's page.
While both tyres display good credentials in certain areas, none of them outscored the other significantly in mutual tests. The Toyo Proxes Sport 2 seems to have a slight edge in the dry performance, but the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 is a sturdy performer under wet conditions. When deciding between these two, your choice might ultimately boil down to price constraints and the specific performance criterion that you prioritize.
