In the growing SUV tyre market, the Goodyear EfficientGrip 2 SUV and the Michelin Primacy 4 stand out for their remarkable performance and consumer ratings. These summer tyres are from two respected tyre manufacturers, Goodyear and Michelin, known for their high-quality and reliable tyres.
The EfficientGrip 2 SUV, which is an upgrade from the Goodyear EfficientGrip SUV, was praised for its excellent handling on both grass and gravel, minimal external noise, comfort and sand traction. In contrast, the Michelin Primacy 4 excels in dry braking, grass and gravel traction, and comfort. It has been upgraded to the Michelin Primacy 4+.
In the rigorous Autobild testing among 10 tyres, the EfficientGrip 2 held the top position while the Primacy 4 took the second position. However, further testing revealed particular weaknesses and strengths for each tyre. The EfficientGrip 2 SUV is an amazing premium tyre with impressive driving properties on all surfaces, excellent wet and dry handling, short wet and dry braking distances, high comfort and low rolling resistance. Despite its overall high performance, it was not noted for any specific weaknesses.
The Michelin Primacy 4, however, showed an excellent dry braking performance and fuel-efficient rolling resistance. This tyre was criticised for its average aquaplaning qualities and high price level, despite an overall balanced performance.
According to the Tyre Reviews, neither of the tyres was ranked, but both showed some good characteristics. The Goodyear EfficientGrip 2 SUV stood out for its low exterior noise and excellent gravel traction, while the Michelin Primacy 4 was praised for its dry braking and rolling resistance.
Overall, the Goodyear EfficientGrip 2 SUV (89% rating) seems to perform slightly better than the Michelin Primacy 4 (82% rating), with a wider range of strengths and no specific weaknesses mentioned. Nevertheless, the Primacy 4 remains a strong contender, especially if your main concerns are dry braking and fuel efficiency.
In summary, both tyres offer exceptional features that can cater to varying consumer preferences, driving conditions and vehicle requirements. The choice, then, depends more on your budget, the tyre's performance on the surfaces you predominantly drive on and the qualities you consider most important.
