The following is a broad comparison of two popular summer tyres – the Toyo Proxes T1 Sport and the Nokian Powerproof. Both models have been subjected to rigorous tests by various independent organizations, and this comparison will provide a comprehensive overview of their strengths, weaknesses, and overall performance.
The Toyo Proxes T1 Sport, manufactured in Japan by Toyo, achieved an overall rating of 37% in our tests. One of its strongest features was its dry steering response, which was noted in the AutoMotorSport test where it ranked 10 out of 11 tyres tested. Furthermore, its exterior noise level was praised in the Autobild test, but again it ranked 10th out of 11. Finally, in the ADAC test, it ended up in the 13th position out of 16 tyres tested. In general, the Toyo Proxes T1 Sport may require improvements to better compete with other tyres on the market since it consistently placed in the lower ranks in various tests.
On the other end of the spectrum, we have the Nokian Powerproof, crafted in Finland by Nokian. Our tests gave it an impressive rating of 71%. Its firm wet braking and reduced noise levels - both interior and exterior - were standout features. In the AutoMotorSport test, it was placed 7th out of 11, indicating a higher rank than the Toyo Proxes T1 Sport. A similar result was seen in the Autobild and ADAC tests, where it ranked 7th and 11th out of 11 and 16 tyres tested respectively. The Nokian Powerproof confirmed its reliable and above-average performance in all tests.
In conclusion, the Nokian Powerproof surpasses the Toyo Proxes T1 Sport in several areas based on our tests and particular independent tests. Nevertheless, the decision ultimately depends on individual preferences and specific driving conditions. Both models have their merits and no newer models have replaced them so far.
