Here we are comparing two multinational tyres, the Yokohama BluEarth-4S AW21 and the Firestone Multiseason 2. Each of these tyres has its own unique strengths and weaknesses.
The Yokohama BluEarth-4S AW21 is an all-round tyre with particularly good braking performance on snowy environments. However, according to Autobild 2020's review, it shows some weaknesses on both dry and wet roads. These weaknesses extend to winter road conditions and predicted tire life as well. This tire falls short when it comes to resistance to wear and also has a higher weight compared to other tyres. Rated at 31% by our rating, it fell in 14th place out of 16 in ADAC tests and 23rd place out of 32 in Autobild's tests.
On the other hand, we have the Firestone Multiseason 2. Made in Italy, it sports a higher rating of 60% by our rating and scored much better than the Yokohama tyre in mutual tests, landing 8th position in the ADAC tests and an impressive 6th out of 32 in the Autobild tests. The Autobild 2020 review highlighted its good traction and short braking distances on snow, dynamic wet handling, short dry braking distances, high mileage, and a strong value-for-money offering. As a winter tyre, however, it does display moderate safety reserves when faced with aquaplaning, and the Autobild 2023 review also noted handling and lifespan issues.
In conclusion, both tyres have pros and cons, but the Firestone Multiseason 2 performs better overall. While it has some areas for improvement, it manages to offer a good combination of winter characteristics, mileage, and cost-effectiveness. Despite having good snow braking performance, the Yokohama BluEarth-4S AW21 falls behind when it comes to dry and wet road performance and overall tyre life.
