When it comes to choosing the right tyre for your vehicle, performance is paramount. In this review, we're going to take a close look at two of the top contenders for summer tyres in the ultra-high performance range: the Pirelli P ZERO PZ4 and the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2.

Starting with the Pirelli P ZERO PZ4; this tyre features an exceptional rating of 93%. From Autobild's tests, it secured a commendable third place out of a total of 50 tyres tested. Its highlighted strengths were seamlessly etched in Dry handling, Wet braking, Wet circle cornering, and Wet handling. The tyre also rode the silver line, securing the second spot in both the Gute-Fahrt and EVO test results. Notably, it displayed excellent driving dynamics and short wet and dry braking distances. The only drawback found for this Pirelli model is the limited mileage and higher price.

The competitor in our comparison, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2, holds a respectable standing in Autobild's test, ranking 13th out of 50 tyres tested. According to Autozeitung's test results, this Dunlop model presented excellent resistance to aquaplaning and secured a solid 8th place. The tyre demonstrated safe driving characteristics on wet roads, good aquaplaning qualities, and short dry braking distances. The SP Sport MAXX achieved an overall score of 79%, but faced slight delay in steering response on dry surfaces.

According to the information gathered from the aforementioned tests, the Pirelli P ZERO PZ4 is overall the superior tyre. Its exceptional braking and handling capabilities, in both wet and dry conditions, secure it as the more reliable option. However, it comes with more significant investment and may not last as long as other options.

In comparison, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 offers reliable performance, especially in wet conditions, resistance to aquaplaning, and has a lower price point, yet lacks the immediate steering response and overall performance its competitor displays. Hence, your preference between these two tyres may come down to budget and certain driving conditions fairness.

Keep in mind that both brands consistently update their ranges, so stay tuned for newer tyres that may even enhance some of the strongholds of these options.
