In this tyre comparison, we are going to look at two summer tyre models: the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 and the Maxxis Victra Sport 5. The Michelin Pilot Sport 5, a UUHP (Ultra-Ultra High Performance) tyre, comes with a high rating of 97%, having a legacy of the well-known Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and Michelin Pilot Sport 3. On the other side, we have the Maxxis Victra Sport 5, a UHP (Ultra High Performance) tyre made in China, scoring at a relatively lower rating of 69%. The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 has been a strong contender in various tests whereas Maxxis Victra Sport 5 shows strength in wet handling.

In the Sport Auto test, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 gained strong scores in multiple categories, including Aquaplaning - longitudal, Dry braking, Dry handling, Dry lane changing, Wet circle cornering, Wet handling, Wet handling - objective, and came second out of five tyres. Unfortunately, the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 didn't perform as well, taking fourth place, excelling mainly at Wet circle cornering and Wet handling - objective.

Looking at their performance in the ACE test, Michelin Pilot Sport 5 fell a little short and came in third place out of ten, still, it performed rather impressively in Aquaplaning - cross. However, Maxxis Victra Sport 5 only managed to take the sixth place, excelling in Wet handling - objective.

When it came to the Autobild test, where a whopping 50 tyres were compared, Michelin Pilot Sport 5 placed a respectable sixth, excelling in Aquaplaning - cross and longitudal, Wet braking, and Wet circle cornering. Despite achieving high scores in Wet circle cornering, the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 managed to end up in the ninth place only.

To summarize the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 provides excellent grip levels on wet and dry tracks with the shortest dry braking distances. However, its Aquaplaning protection in curves is average and the rolling resistance and pass-by noise are low. The price is relatively high.

On the other hand, Maxxis Victra Sport 5 provides high lateral guidance in the wet, quick response steering, accurate in changing curves. It offers dynamic dry handling and high stability when changing lanes. However, its braking distances in wet conditions are quite long, steering response when dry is somewhat delayed, and rolling resistance is high.

In conclusion, while each tyre has its strengths and weaknesses, it seems the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 outperforms the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 overall, despite its higher price. It demonstrated more balanced performance in various tests, particularly in dry handling and braking. Maxxis Victra Sport 5, however, provides good value for money and shows strength in wet handling. Choosing between these two depends on your specific needs and budget.
