The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 and the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 are two highly-rated summer tyres, with ratings of 97% and 69% respectively, that have both performed excellently in a range of tyre tests.
A successor of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and the Michelin Pilot Sport 3, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 has proven itself to be an exceptional tyre in most tests. It consistently ranks highly, such as 6th out of 50 tyres in the Autobild test, and 2nd out of 5 in the Sportauto test. Its strengths lie in its impressive mileage, wet braking, aquaplaning - both cross and longitudinal - and wet circle cornering. However, some tests pointed out a moderate aquaplaning protection in curves and a somewhat bumpy rolling as its weaknesses.
On the other hand, while the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 may not have any recorded predecessor, it still managed to hold its own in tyre tests. Ranking 9th in the Autobild test and 4th in both the Die Reifentester and Sportauto tests, it scored highly in wet circle cornering and wet handling - objective. However, tests have noted that it has relatively long braking distances in wet conditions, a somewhat delayed steering response in dry conditions, and high rolling resistance.
In summary, both the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 and the Maxxis Victra Sport 5 have shown excellent performance in their respective areas. While the Michelin tyre seems to have an edge in overall test performance and higher customer satisfaction rating, both tyres still offer great value and performance. As always, the ultimate choice between the two would depend on your specific driving conditions and requirements.
