When choosing tyres, safety and performance are paramount. In this comparison, we are looking at two excellent options: the Maxxis Premitra HP5 and the Bridgestone Turanza T005. Both these tyres have been put through their paces in comprehensive tests by industry experts and we'll summarise their results to give you a clear picture of their strengths and weaknesses.
Starting with the Maxxis Premitra HP5, this summer tyre has an overall rating of 78%. During the tests, particular strengths of the Premitra HP5 were its very good safety reserves in aquaplaning scenarios and its short wet braking distances. These points were highlighted in numerous tests, including Autobild, Autozeitung, and ADAC. However, the tyre also showed weaknesses in dry handling, and it had a significantly restricted lifespan and higher rolling resistance.
On the other hand, the Bridgestone Turanza T005 is a touring summer tyre that came out with an impressive overall rating of 89%. The Turanza T005 showed excellent performance in dry and wet conditions. It was praised for its good grip, excellent wet and dry handling, precise steering behaviour, and short wet and dry braking distances. One point to critique was its restricted lifespan, as pointed out in the Autobild 2022 test.
In direct comparison tests, the Bridgestone tyre tended to come out above the Maxxis. For example, in the Promobil test, out of 8 tyres, Maxxis Premitra HP5 secured the 7th spot, while Bridgestone Turanza T005 landed in 4th. Even more significant was the Autobild positioning where out of 51 tyres, the Turanza T005 managed an impressive 2nd place, whereas the Premitra HP5 came in 9th.
Both Maxxis and Bridgestone are well-regarded manufacturers and these tyre models truly represent the quality they offer. The Maxxis Premitra HP5 and the Bridgestone Turanza T005 are both strong contenders in the field of summer tyres, with excellent aquaplaning characteristics and good braking performance. However, based on the given test data and ratings, the Bridgestone Turanza T005 has a slight edge due to its superior dry handling and consistent top-tier performance across multiple tests.
