The Kumho Ecsta HS51, model hails from China and scored a decent 50% in our rating. This tyre excelled in aquaplaning – both cross and longitudinal, showing good resistance against water. It also performed well in wet handling, and offers good value for its price. It did not perform as well in the tests by Autozeitung, landing in the 9th position out of 10. This model has been replaced by the Kumho Ecsta HS52.

The Maxxis Premitra HP5, on the other hand, scored an impressive 76% on our rating, making it a top contender in its category. This tyre outperformed the HS51 in the mutual tyre tests, landing in 3rd place in the ADAC and Autozeitung tests. It demonstrated excellent performance in terms of dry driving behavior, safety, and aquaplaning. Wet circle cornering abilities and exterior noise were also mentioned as its strong points. However, it did not perform as well in the Autobild test, where it fell to the 18th position out of 52.

Overall, based on the test data, the Maxxis Premitra HP5 seems to be better in terms of general performance. Its strong points in safety and dry driving behavior, in particular, make it a solid choice, while the Kumho Ecsta HS51 shines in specific aspects such as aquaplaning and wet handling.

It should also be noted that the Kumho Ecsta HS51 has been replaced with a newer model – the Kumho Ecsta HS52. Users who have found value in the HS51 might want to consider trying out the HS52 model. On the contrary, for the Maxxis Premitra HP5, no replacement information is available at present.
