In the summer tyre test comparison, we'll focus on the Fulda SportControl 2 and the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2. These tyres are from reputable manufacturers, Fulda and Dunlop respectively.
Starting with the Fulda SportControl 2, it scored a commendable 84% in our rating. It showcases good performance in aquaplaning with ample reserves, and provides short braking distances on both wet and dry roads. Strengths of this tyre include the exterior noise level, ride comfort and low rolling resistance. However, the tyre demonstrates slightly delayed steering response and average durability. Despite slight dry ride comfort weaknesses and minor issues on wet surfaces, the Fulda SportControl 2 still provides a compelling value for money.
Moving on to the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2, it received a 79% score in our rating. This Ultra-Ultra-High-Performance (UUHP) tyre holds its own well in the test, with particular strengths in terms of aquaplaning - having secured an impressive 5th position in the ADAC test out of 16 tyres. Additionally, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 presents a good balance of safety features on wet roads, excellent aquaplaning qualities and short dry braking distances. However, its steering response on dry road surfaces could be improved.
In a comparison in the ADAC test, Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 outperforms by obtaining a higher rank than the Fulda SportControl 2. In the AutoBild test, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 again surpasses the Fulda SportControl 2 by ranking 7th out of 52 tyres and the latter sitting at 9th position. This portrays Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 as the better tyre in terms of test positions.
Analysing overall performance in diverse driving conditions, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 stands out particularly in aquaplaning tests, and offers superior ride comfort. Despite its flawed steering response on dry roads, it still provides a reliable ride. The Fulda SportControl 2, not trailing far behind, offers commendable characteristics in noise control, comfort and less rolling resistance, which makes for a delightfully quiet, comfortable, and fuel-economic ride.
However, it is worth noting that neither the Fulda SportControl 2 nor the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 have a newer model to replace them yet. Therefore, users looking for updated features might have to wait.
In conclusion, if a buyer is looking for a balance between performance in wet conditions, comfort and good aquaplaning characteristics, the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX RT2 would likely be a preferable candidate. However, for buyers whose priority lies in a smooth, quiet and energy-efficient ride, the Fulda SportControl 2 would be a strong contender.
