Looking at two summer tyres, the Cooper Zeon CS8 and the Kumho Ecsta HS52, a comparison in various tests shows significant differences in performance, comfort, and value for money. This summary aims to provide an overview of test data and practical insights on these tyres from Cooper and Kumho.

The Cooper Zeon CS8, a British-made tyre, scored moderately in our tests with a rating of 42%. According to Autobild tests where a total of 51 tyres were tested, the Cooper Zeon CS8 scored relatively low, landing in the 27th position. Its strengths are geared towards wet surface performance. However, it suffers quite noticeably on dry surfaces and environmental balance, resulting in a shorter life span and reduced efficiency.

On the other hand, we have the Kumho Ecsta HS52, a "touring" tyre, which is an upgrade from its predecessor, the Kumho Ecsta HS51. Our testing rated this tyre considerably higher at 78%. Among 51 tyres in the Autobild test, the Kumho Ecsta HS52 significantly outperformed the Cooper tyre ranking at the 3rd position. Key strengths were observed in dry braking, dry handling, wet braking, and value for money.

Particularly noteworthy is the performance on both wet and dry surfaces, as well as good comfort levels and an excellent price-performance ratio. However, slight weaknesses were reported concerning its environmental footprint and efficiency.

In other tyre tests held in 2022 and 2024 by Autobild and ADAC, the Kumho Ecsta HS52 consistently showed impressive results, ranking 8th out of 50 in the ADAC test. The Cooper Zeon CS8 lagged behind, coming in at the 33rd position.

Despite convincing performances in selected areas, the Cooper Zeon CS8 was generally weak in several key aspects such as dry surface performance and environmental balance, while the Kumho Ecsta HS52 displayed a balanced and comprehensive set of strengths.

Conclusion: The Kumho Ecsta HS52 proves to be a clear choice over the Cooper Zeon CS8 for summer tyres, thanks to its commendable performance in both wet and dry conditions, favourable reviews, and a simply great value for money offering.
