When it comes to Michelin and Bridgestone, two of their most notable tyres are the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 and the Bridgestone Potenza Sport. The Michelin Pilot Sport 5, succeeded by the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 and 3, has an impressive 97% rating according to our tests. On the other hand, Bridgestone's Potenza Sport coming with an 89% rating.

The Bridgestone Potenza Sport boasts the label as a solid performer in wet conditions, accorded key attributes including aquaplaning, wet handling, and wet circle cornering, among others. Notably, it ranked second overall in tests conducted by Autobild and Autozeitung; however, it dropped in performance under cooler wet braking conditions and struggled in deeper waters.

On the contrary, The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 showcases both solidity and longevity, achieving the longest tread life amidst all tested tyres. As such, it maintained consistent performance across varying conditions - steering, progressive understeer balance and held the lowest eco impact. However, the Pilot Sport 5 posed as the priciest tyre to purchase, with grip in wet conditions needing marginal improvement.

In mutual test positions, both tyres performed admirably. The Bridgestone Potenza Sport got the upper hand in the Autobild, Autozeitung and ACE tests. On the other hand, the position of Michelin Pilot Sport 5 was marginally behind, ranking third in the Autobild and ACE tests and fifth in the Autozeitung review.

In summary, the Bridgestone Potenza Sport from Bridgestone ensures considerable grip under wet conditions and exhibits significant dry handling; however, it may compromise potential longevity when used on demanding circuits and struggles with aquaplaning tests. The Michelin Pilot Sport 5, prevails in durability with the magnum opus being its longest tread life, providing consistent performance across varying conditions, while it needs an improvement in the wet condition grip and is slightly higher in cost.

Our verdict is, both tyres make excellent choices but the Bridgestone Potenza Sport may be more suitable for consumers wanting significant grip in wet conditions and the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 for those wanting longevity.
