Laufenn, Hankook’s associate brand, has launched the S Fit 2 summer tyre — its first model to be used as original equipment by European car manufacturers. The new summer tyre is available in 94 sizes from 15 to 20 inches, with a dedicated S Fit 2 SUV variant covering sizes from 16 to 20 inches.

Wet performance

The S Fit 2’s standout claim is its wet-weather performance. According to Laufenn, a high silica content in the compound, combined with a convex tread-block design, results in an EU wet-grip label of A — the top rating — for nearly 90% of sizes. The manufacturer says this equates to 16% shorter wet braking distances and a 10% improvement in wet handling compared with the predecessor model. Four generously sized linear grooves handle water evacuation.

Efficiency and mileage

On rolling resistance, the S Fit 2 achieves a B or C rating depending on the size — a respectable result for a mid-range product. More significant is the claimed 15% increase in mileage over the outgoing model, attributed to a new polymer generation in the compound. Laufenn frames this as a cost-reduction argument over the tyre’s lifetime, not merely a performance figure. Tread noise has also been reduced, although no specific decibel figures are cited in the press release.

OE debut and EV compatibility

The OE fitment milestone strengthens Laufenn’s credibility. Hankook launched the Laufenn sub-brand in Europe in 2015 as a value alternative to its main range. Securing original equipment contracts from European car manufacturers — which demand extensive validation testing — elevates the brand into a higher quality tier. The press release does not name the car manufacturer(s) involved.

Sizes compatible with plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles will carry a dedicated EV sidewall marking. This applies to certain sizes within the S Fit 2 range and forms part of Laufenn’s broader second-generation product strategy.

Who is this tyre for?

The Laufenn S Fit 2 targets drivers who want reliable wet-weather performance and decent mileage without paying premium-brand prices. With a 94-size range and SUV coverage, it suits a broad spectrum of vehicles. The A wet-grip label in most sizes makes it a genuine contender in the value segment — a step above pure budget options. Pricing has not been announced. The tyre is developed for the European market and is available through Laufenn’s European distribution network.
